It was discovered by Krisztián Sárneczky and Zsuzsanna Heiner at the Piszkéstető Station in the Mátra mountains of Hungary on January 11, 2002. It is named after Donát Bánki, a Hungarian engineer of the 19th and 20th centuries.[1]
